Swim-a-Thon 2016!

Swim-a-Thon 2016!

Success! The Swim-a-Thon has raised over $7,000, beating last year’s fundraising by over $1,000! Our Marlin Swimmers turned out in greater numbers, worked harder than ever, joined with our terrific sponsors and made the day a smashing success! Huge mounds of gratitude also to those parents who counted, organized, cleaned and prepped for the day. It couldn’t happen without this community! Still wanting to add a pledge for a favorite swimmer! No worries! We’ll take pledges year-round! It all helps the pool & CT Athletic Program. Just use our PayPal Donation Site and note the name of the swimmer on the following page! Stats: 82 Marlins turned out to swim a combined 72 miles—the most ever! 2,530 laps for a total of 126,500 yards! Most laps swam: 57, by several swimmers; average laps swam: 31, for an average 1500 yard workout—not bad for a lazy Saturday! Percentage of smiles: 100%! Number of degrees by noon (at the airport): 100 also! Not a sad face was spotted in the crowd. “I enjoyed my time!” said one lap counter from the shade, after Wave 1 completed.CTAP Marlins Swim-a-Thon 2016 Seemingly endless free raffle prizes poured like pool water after every hour swim. Our sponsors are the best—show your support and spread the word about them! Our major fundraising event for the year, look for more updates on more numbers over the next few weeks, after the pledges start coming back in. Have more questions? Shoot us a message at your local CTMarlins mail! Don’t forget our friends at Bookmans Sports Exchange. They invited Bill the Marlin over for a chat about the Swim-a-Thon—read the results here! More info at our Swim-a-Thon page.

Thursday July 7 AWAY Swim Meet v. Los Tibs, Final meet of the season!

Los Tiburones host our final meet of the 2016 summer season—out with a bang! The Los Tibs pool may be out there a-ways, but the meet was fast, the weather clear and mild (for summer in Tucson!), with a fine new moon gracing the twilight sky. The Los Tibs squad ran a rapid and smooth meet—thanks Los Tibs!

FRIDAY July 1 AWAY Swim Meet v. the Continental Ranch Gators—Marana!

That’s RIGHT—again!: MORE Gators and a FRIDAY night swim meet, at Marana High School! Now that the monsoons have arrived, our Tucson swamps are filled with Gators! We spent a beautiful, calm and quick swim meet with the Gators, hosting ourselves and the Ott-Y Otters in a Friday Night trip-meet. Their efficient organization ran a swift meet: the entire event wrapped by 8pm under clearing skies. This, after a torrential downpour scattered our youngest Marlins at the end of the final practices of the day! Hooray for summer monsoons!

Tuesday June 28 Home Swim Meet v. the 49rs Gators!

That’s right, our THIRD home meet—three-in-a-row—before we take our team on the road for our last two swim meets & Championships! Over the weekend, monsoon storms blasted our neighborhood with winds & pelted us with rain—the place got a little scruffy looking, but little damage. Several parents turned out to clean up the mess before the meet! We defied the storms tonight as the 49rs Gators join us at our pool where we dodged lightning and raced thunderbolts down the lane lines. Thanks for coming out Gators! And who could miss the Shelby GT350 parked out front for the first half of the meet!?

Thursday June 23 Home Swim Meet v. Orcas

Swirling Monsoon clouds brew over the pool tonight as the Orcas swim into our waters for a dual in the pool. Also tonight we are able to announce the winners in our Annual Swim-a-Thon fundraising. More updates in our Swim-a-Thon news! Great racing and terrific competition amongst the swimmers! Thanks Orcas!

Tuesday June 21 Home Swim Meet v. FAST-AZ

Hosting the Flying Fish tonight from FAST-AZ in Oro Valley—great start to the latter-helf of our summer season on a terrific steamy-hot Tucson Summer day! Spare clouds & a late-rising full moon herald the shift in weather and the swim season. The Monsoons can’t be far off, but the teams swam up a storm to alleviate the heat of the day.

Thursday June 16 Away Swim Meet v. Tierra del Sol

Beautiful twilight and evening swim at the classic, east-side Tucson neighborhood heritage pool Tierra del Sol and their Tigershark Swimmers. Some terrific swimming tonight under the stars after the heat of the day steamed off the deck. Thanks Tigersharks for hosting!

Tuesday June 14 Home Swim Meet v. Continental Ranch

Thanks to Continental Ranch for making the long trek to our pool for a fine evening of swim and racing for all our kids as the temps top 110˚ across Tucson! Everyone was cool tonight at our pool, despite the heat and the swelter. Thanks Gators!

Friday PhotoDay: JUNE 10th!

T-shirts delayed! So our photo day was also. But the sky made up for it with some spectacular clouds and a little filtering of the otherwise unrelenting heat! See the results at the bottom of this page! Thanks to all the swimmers, families and adults who stuck around to help with this gigantic project. We all love seeing the changes in our kids as they grow through the years at CT!

Thursday June 9 Away Swim Meet v. Sahuarita away

The sky tried to cloud up over the beautiful Stingray pool near the Santa Ritas, making for a terrific sunset, but it couldn’t dampen our swimmers tonight, as they sprinted through their heats on a hot summer’s night! Thank you Stingrays for hosting!

Tuesday June 7 Home Swim Meet v. TCC

We welcome the TCC Barracudas to our pool for our first home meet of the season, and despite a few chaotic glitches, we all survived! Great thanks to the TCC swimmers, coaches & staff for providing some thrilling races, excellent swimming and brow-relieving patience as we all sweated out the classic Tucson hot night on the deck.

Tuesday May 31 Ice-Break Away Swim Meet v. HVAC

Our first swim meet of the season, an away meet against the Highland Vista Wahoos Swim Team! Will it hit 100˚ today? It is an ice-breaker either way, with both teams hitting the lane lines for the first time in 2016, the Marlins swimming furiously against the Wahoos in an aqua duel to the 100th second.

The facility looks spectacular; the clean-up and repair was a terrific success! Between 7am to 12-noon, dozens of families and volunteers turned out to help spruce-up, repair, replant and generally beautify our beloved Catalina Terrace facility. Special notices to Amy Cotner and her Lloyd Construction crew and for their time & effort, material & expertise rebuilding five new picnic tables! If you were unable to participate, and still need to, you can contact us for make-up jobs. Bill the Marlin and the CTAP Board deeply appreciate all the hard work and effort of the Catalina Terrace membership for creating the community that sustains and preserves this authentic piece of mid-century mid-Tucson, both in spirit and in place.

Did you know the Catalina Terrace Marlins has an Instagram account!? Here it is! We’re also at Twitter and Facebook! Look for the social media buttons on the upper-right of every page. If you’re not on our roster for this summer 2016, but still desire to get involved with SAAA Summer Swim at the Catalina Terrace Marlins, visit our contact page and send us a note about swimming summer 2017!

Swim Buddies!

The season is cranking up! Start forging those swim buddy relationships! Update your swim scrap book! (You do keep a swim scrap book, right?) Write your buddy a letter of encouragement, a poster for a swim meet, a card for invitational or championships! Send your buddy an Instagram or Tweet! Small crafts or silly simple toys are great buddy treats. Keep it cheap, but keep it meaningful—tell your swim buddy why they make the best Marlin buddy ever! Teach each other how to be an ever GREATER SWIM BUDDY all summer!!

Lloyd Construction is just one example of our outstanding sponsor/partners over the years. We have had many super sponsors to our team for the summer seasons and for our annual Swim-a-Thon. Visit them! They help us—let’s help them by patronizing their business and spreading the word of their support. Go Marlins!

Swim? Tennis?

The pool is guarded Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend, but year ’round the facility is open for swimming and tennis for Catalina Terrace Members. Off-season it is typically quiet and peaceful and the water’s a might bit chilly, but the facility is open for CTAP Member use during all daylight hours, and closed after dark. Want to maximize your member benefits? Light a barbecue, meet another family for dinner, schedule a family or office party for the holidays, make a mini-tennis tournament! (really gonna try swimming? The cost of a guard for parties is extra—see here)! Enjoy a game of tennis under our massive Tucson Spring Sunlight!
